Since that day in 1943 when Rev. and Mrs. C. C. Thomas, Sr. opened a little storefront rescue mission on North Howard Street in Akron, Ohio, God has worked faithfully through Haven of Rest to reclaim the lives of physically and spiritually destitute people.
From a very humble beginning when expenses amounted to only $35 per month, Haven of Rest has grown to become one of the largest private social service agencies in Akron and a neighboring seven-county area.
Haven of Rest fills a vital community need, and its doors are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Help is available without charge to any individual regardless of race, color, creed or social standing.
Haven of Rest relies entirely on voluntary contributions. It has never sought nor received assistance from any government organization. The majority of our support comes from individuals; the balance comes from churches, businesses, foundations and other community organizations.
Strict adherence to a rigid code of financial ethics has always been a Haven of Rest trademark. As you examine our current annual report, you will note that the major portion of every dollar received goes directly into programs and services to help needy and homeless men, women and children.
