Last week I had the great privilege of attending Haven of Rest’s Akron Regional Dinner. As a new employee, I have not been to too many dinners, but each time I go my heart is so full by the time the evening is over.
As I sat, enjoying a delicious meal with the people at my table, I scanned the room; what I experienced moved me close to tears. I saw men and women of all walks of life sharing stories and even praying together at their tables. I heard joy and laughter rebounding off the walls as people introduced themselves to new friends or made new memories with old friends. Most strongly, I felt God’s peace and blessings washing over and over the room like waves. It was so refreshing to know that all the people in the room, close to 500 in all, had felt that Haven of Rest was important enough to spend an evening learning about the difference the Mission makes in the lives of men, women and children in our community.
The program began, songs were sung, and the room was full of God’s praises. People clapped along and raised their hands in praise as the Resident Men sang. When it was time for the testimonies, I was in awe of what God had done in the lives of the man and woman who shared. God truly had mended their wounds and healed their hearts through very difficult times. I could tell they believed that God was not done with them yet and that even though He had pulled them out of a dark time in their lives, the Lord had even bigger plans for them in the future. How great is our God!
Then, before I knew it the last song came and went and my husband and I headed to our car. As we put on our seatbelts and pulled away, I felt refreshed in my faith and even more in love with the Lord. I will surely treasure this wonderful experience in my heart and in my prayers for a long time to come. If you get the chance to go to a Dinner with Haven of Rest, I urge you to attend. You never know how the Lord could use an experience like these dinners in your life. The great thing is you have three more chances to experience this for yourself this year!
