After a recent trip to the mechanic to have many repairs done on my car, I began to think about the verse in Isaiah that talks about “our righteousness as filthy rags.”
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away. Isaiah 64:6
Oily, greasy and dirty rags lying around are a common sight in a mechanic’s garage. These rags filled with dirt serve no purpose in the garage while dirty. They are too filthy to be useful, but once the mechanic picks them up and cleans them, they are given new purpose.
It is the same with our sins. Until we receive Christ’s forgiveness and have Him cleanse us, we are that dirty rag lying on the floor. It takes Jesus to cleanse us and Jesus to give us hope and a purpose. Jesus loves each one of us and He came to give us hope and a future. God’s son hung on a cross and died so that each one of us could be cleansed from our filthy sins.
Here at the Mission we strive to share this truth with all that enter through our doors. Many struggling men, women and children come to the Mission searching for hope, hope that can only be found through Christ Jesus.
