"I came to the Mission on my own, and I'm so glad I did…I've been able to get away from the temptations that have really hurt me. I have a better perspective on my life and what God wants for me." - Joe, Haven of Rest resident

  • Seeds of the Gospel…by Hannah Rodgers

When men, women and children walk into Haven of Rest for the first time it is difficult to know what services and programs they will need. Most need something to eat, some want somewhere to shower, others are looking for a warm and dry place to pass the night, some require all of the above, and even more need other services we provide. But, no matter what each person is looking for, they also receive the Good News of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Haven of Rest does not expect that everyone is a believer when they come to the Mission or even that they will accept Christ as their Lord and Savior during their stay. We do pray, however, that because of the love and peace that abounds at Haven of Rest, a seed of the Gospel will be planted in them and it will begin to grow.

Matthew 13:31-32 says, “Another parable He put forth to them, saying: ‘The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field, which indeed is the least of all the seeds; but when it is grown it is greater than the herbs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and nest in its branches.’”

In this parable, Jesus tells us that even the smallest act of love and kindness, when done in His name, can make a big difference in someone’s life. Like a tiny mustard seed, the smallest smile or kind word can begin a major change within a person. It is our privilege, as staff, in our work at Haven of Rest, to spread God’s Word and watch as He makes His Kingdom grow like the great tree in the parable above. Please pray for everyone at the Mission, that the Lord will continue to grow our love for Him and help us to share it with everyone who comes to Haven of Rest for help.
