"I came to the Mission on my own, and I'm so glad I did…I've been able to get away from the temptations that have really hurt me. I have a better perspective on my life and what God wants for me." - Joe, Haven of Rest resident

  • Thanks, Father!…by Hannah Rodgers

Patterned ties, golf socks, coffee mugs, gift cards, and sweaters; all great gifts for dad to show thanks on Father’s Day. But what do you get for a Father who has given us all we could ever need in perfect timing and love? A Father who never leaves or forsakes us and always has the very best intentions in mind? What can we possibly do to give thanks for all His mercy and grace? What do we get for a Father who gives us everlasting life?

God is the great provider. He provides for our every earthly need; whether we know at the time we have that need or not. God knows when to say yes and when to say no. He gives us people to share our life’s journey with and even a direct line to contact Him through prayer. But that’s not all! He gave the ultimate gift: His Son Jesus Christ. Jesus died on the cross for our sins so we have the opportunity to accept this free gift and join Him through eternal life in heaven.

But the question still remains: what do we give God for Father’s Day? The answer is love for each other and love for God. Mark 12:30-31 says, “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” According to these verses, love is very valuable to God.

Staff at Haven of Rest strive to radiate God’s love as He intended in Mark 12 not just in God’s honor on Father’s Day, but every day. The Mission staff teaches with and about God’s love in Bible studies, fills bodies with God’s love through meals, and even covers people in clothes that have been given in love to the Ministry. Please pray that God continues to fill lives with His abundant love.
