Haven of Rest provides emergency relief for men, women and children who come to us for help. Staff and volunteers do their best to meet the immediate needs of weary and downtrodden individuals and families who may have nowhere else to turn. At the Mission, they can find food, shelter, clothing, counseling, and a myriad of other resources available at the Mission and through partnering agencies. Though this type of care is vital to most who come through our doors, our care does not stop there. Haven of Rest is also committed to long-term recovery.
The Men’s and Women’s Residential Programs focus on preparing men and women to take an active role in their transformation to a more productive lifestyle. The programs focus on work readiness, finding sustainable housing, spiritual wellness, and addiction-free living. When asked how the spiritual programming (Bible studies, devotions, chapel services, etc.) have helped him, a man on the residential program replied:
“I rededicated my life to the Lord when I arrived four months ago. The constant spiritual interaction and encouragement is helping me regrow my faith on a daily basis. I was very discouraged when I arrived here. I felt worthless and lost. For the first time in a very long time I have a sense of hope for the future. I am blessed with these people and this chance to someday have a job and be a working part of society. Through Jesus it will happen. I am blessed.”
Testimonies of hope and trust in Christ, like this one, are such a blessing. Nothing gets you through a Monday morning or Friday afternoon like knowing that God is using your Christian witness through the Mission to help bring His love to the lives of those around you. This testimony is also a great reminder to put our lives in Christ’s hands no matter where we are in our walk with Him. Psalm 36:7-9 says, “How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings. They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house. And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures. For with You is the fountain of life; In Your light we see light.”
Please join us in praying for men, women and children who come to the Mission for help, especially those striving to turn their lives around. Pray that they would find comfort in knowing that they can lay their troubles at Christ’s feet and He will take them and shine His light on them, bringing blessings wherever the light touches!
