HAVEN OF REST TODAY
As the largest private social service organization in the Summit, Medina, Portage, Stark, Tuscarawas, Wayne, Holmes Counties area, Haven of Rest Ministries is widely recognized and respected for its work among poor, homeless, and spiritually destitute people.

Haven of Rest fills a vital community need, providing a wide range of programs and services not duplicated by other agencies and organizations. Its doors are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There is never a charge, and no credentials are required. Help is offered to any person regardless of race, color, creed, or social standing.

Approximately 88 full and part-time employees handle day-to-day activities, assisted by more than 600 volunteers who give their time to perform a variety of tasks ranging from peeling potatoes, washing dishes, and babysitting to conducting Bible studies and nightly chapel services. An 18-member Board of Trustees that serves without remuneration guides overall operations.

Haven of Rest neither seeks nor receives financial assistance from United Way or any government agency. In 2006-2007, 85.1% of its support came from individuals (includes gifts-in-kind); the balance came from bequests, churches, foundations, and the corporate community.

From an austere beginning in 1943 when its operating budget amounted to a mere $35 per month to the present and a budget of over $6 million annually, Haven of Rest has adhered to a strict code of financial accountability, ethics, and reporting.

The majority of all funds received goes into programs and services. In 2006-2007 that amounted to 75.2% of every dollar.

Statement of Purpose:

The purpose of Haven of Rest Ministries is to serve and glorify God through a Christ-Centered outreach of love and compassion that responds to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of disadvantaged men, women, and children without regard to their race, color, creed or social standing.

Ongoing goals:
To glorify God by maintaining a standard of excellence and accountability in all areas of ministry.

To minister to men, women, and children through programs designed to meet their total needs.

To present the Word of God for the purpose of evangelism and discipleship.

To provide food, shelter, clothing, and care to people in crisis circumstances.

To be an advocate on behalf of the homeless, the poor, and the needy of the community and to inform the public  regarding the unique needs of the poor, needy, and homeless of the community.

To encourage those we serve to develop personal responsibility in all areas of life.

To identify human need in the community and challenge churches, individuals, and the business community to respond with their time, abilities, and resources.

To be a resource for churches, Christian organizations, and the community-at-large.

Statement of Faith:
We believe in one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the virgin birth and absolute deity of Jesus Christ.

We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross as a substitutionary sacrifice for our sins and that His shed blood is the only means for the remission of sins.

We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the inspired Word of God and that they are the supreme, final, and only authority of faith and life.

We believe that man was created by God in God’s image; Adam sinned as recorded in Genesis, causing physical and spiritual death.

We believe sin had its origin with Adam, and as a result, the entire human race is born with a sinful nature and spiritually dead.

We believe that when a person receives by faith the Lord Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit regenerates that person into the family of God.

We believe in a future heaven for the saved and that it is not obtained as the result of good works, but we believe in the maintenance of good works, and holy living as a result of salvation.
