Dave

“GOD MAKES A WAY’

“I came here homeless,” says Dave. But now, he’s living a new life — thanks to your generosity!

Like so many others who are struggling on the streets, Dave was relying on drugs and alcohol to get him through the pains of life. “I chose to do things that kept me down. Drugs and alcohol were my darkness,” he says.

Dave was moving through life as a functioning addict for some time. But eventually, his family started falling apart at the seams — and soon after, so did he.

Dave found himself in the midst of a divorce, fighting a custody battle over his daughters and watching his wife fall into
hard drug-use and drinking. “My wife and I went our separate ways. We hated each other,” says Dave.

Despite the broken pieces, Dave was making progress in getting back on his feet. “But I fell back into a slump,”
he says. Addiction put Dave on the streets — a miserable place he never thought he’d come to.

NEXT TO NOTHING

Desperate for a fresh start, Dave came to Haven of Rest. “I thought it was a joke at first,” he admits. “But it’s really
something. You clothed me, fed me and put a roof over my head — even when I didn’t have enough sense to take care of myself. I thank God for this place every day.

Through Christ-centered recovery care, stabilizing programs and spiritual mentorship, Dave found the foundation he needed to start new. Now, he’s working on rebuilding a relationship with his daughters.

“It’s small baby steps right now,” says Dave. “I’m thankful that God has given me the sense to walk the right road and not look back in shame at things I did in the past. God makes a way.”

gift is too small.

“Please give. Everything helps. Your giving goes so far,” he says. “I don’t need drugs or alcohol anymore to get me through. I’m thankful for Haven of Rest. They guided me and helped me.
