Growing up, he wasn’t rebellious. There was no trauma in his life that pushed him to cope with drugs or alcohol. He always had a secure job and place to live. But Jeff was secretly struggling. “I had no addiction issues,” says Jeff. “I had financial and mental health issues. Depression and anxiety are what I dealt with most.”
The emotions that clouded him put Jeff in a vulnerable position. Although he had a healthy upbringing, solid career and no battle with addiction, he struggled to function. “There was a time I was staying with my brother, but he kicked me out,” says Jeff. “That’s when I heard about Haven of Rest.”
Jeff’s journey goes to show that homelessness doesn’t happen from just one cause. Trauma, grief, crises, addiction, financial strain and more can all bring someone to a place of deep need. No matter what brings a neighbor through our doors, they’re able to receive compassionate, Christ-centered care because you give.
Here at Haven of Rest, Jeff found the tools he needed to rebuild a firm foundation that will last — group classes, spiritual development, job training and employment opportunities. “They had classes to help me with finances,” he says. “If I ever needed someone to talk to, the staff provided that. I don’t know where I’d be without Haven of Rest.”
Today, Jeff is in his fifth year of working for a company he loves and has secured his own housing. “I’m very
thankful for a nice job and a roof over my head,” he says. “Everything is so good where I’m at right now. I pray the
Lord gives me the strength to keep on going.” From the inside out, Jeff’s life was transformed. Without the care he found at Haven of Rest, he wouldn’t be where he is today.
“Everyone has ups and downs. No one goes through life with a perfect path,” says Jeff. “The Lord has helped me through many things, and I appreciate what Haven of Rest has done for me.”
