For years, Chris struggled with personal challenges and alcohol. While he was living in Kansas, he used drinking as a way to cope. “I needed a change,” he admits. Then, something unexpected happened—as he was scrolling through social media on his phone, Bible verses kept popping up. “Every time I would read them, I would feel better about things,” he says. “Deep down, inside, I wanted to build a foundation — something for the future to hang on to.” That led him to search for Christian addiction programs.

You gave Chris a place to begin again

After seeing Haven of Rest appear in his internet search multiple times, he prayed about it and knew it was where God wanted him. He left behind his home, job, and car to come to Ohio. At first, he was nervous. “I didn’t know anyone. I wondered if I would fit in, Chris says. “But people here were welcoming and supportive.” Through the Conqueror’s Program, Bible studies, and Christian community, Chris found healing.

You make life change possible

“I’ve learned a lot about the Bible and about myself,” he shares. Romans 12:2—about renewing the mind—has become a guiding verse for him. “It’s changed me pretty much inside out.”

Chris also gained practical skills, like using a computer and writing a resume. And classes like Authentic Manhood have helped him grow into the man God created him to be. Now, Chris is focused on walking with the Lord and rebuilding his life, including reconnecting with his son.
