No income. No place to live. No stability.

When Dana moved to Ohio, she found herself in this very position — a position no one imagines finding themselves in. “It’s hard to look for a job or housing when you’re wondering where you’re going to sleep that night,” says Dana.

Dana did what she had to do to avoid sleeping on the streets. She stayed with family and friends, bouncing from house to house. But when those options began dwindling, she had no choice but to sleep in her van.

Far too many people across our community are in Dana’s position — living out of a car because they have nowhere else to go. Like Dana says, focusing on
finding a job or place to live feels impossible when all of your energy is given to simply “surviving.”

But thanks to you, there’s hope for Dana and our neighbors in need — hope that transforms lives.

THE POWER OF ENCOURAGEMENT

When Dana heard about Haven of Rest from her mom, it was a glimmer of hope in her darkness. Stability finally felt within reach.

Inside our doors, Dana found the encouragement, support and resources she desperately needed. Most important, she’s discovered the freedom and peace
found in a relationship with Jesus.

“I have mental health issues and have dealt with addiction,” says Dana. “I needed people around me to encourage me. I found that here.”

FREE TO THRIVE

Thanks to your support, Dana secured her own housing. She still visits Haven of Rest to participate in Future Story sewing classes — our job-training
program for women that instills hope, self-confidence and self-sufficiency.

“I like the therapeutic value I get from sewing at Future Story,” says Dana. “I’m very appreciative of Haven of Rest for all of the things they’ve done for me. It’s a place where I can come and experience a refreshing and a renewal of mind, body and spirit.”

Because you helped meet Dana’s vital needs, she now has the freedom to dream and plan for her future. “I desire to volunteer, or even work part-time, at Haven of Rest,” she says. “I want to help others and give back what was freely given to me.”
