The Haven of Rest, a faith based rescue mission, serves as a light to the homeless community in and around the Akron Ohio area. Offering food, shelter, safety, drug rehabilitation and most of all hope to those most in need.

Edward Martinez -Waiting on God

Edward Martinez knows what he wants. “I want to be with my wife. I want to be with my kids. I want to be home with them. That’s what I want.” But that will probably not happen any time soon. A constant cycle of drugs and alcohol has caused him to lose everything. He has learned the hard lesson we all learn sooner or later—bad choices lead to consequences.

As a teen, while living in Gary, Indiana, Edward fell into a crazy, fast lifestyle involving drugs and alcohol. After high school, Edward joined the Navy. When he got out, he moved to Illinois where he bounced from job to job. While renting a room in his aunt’s home, he met and began dating a young woman who was also renting a room there. One evening a friend at work invited the two of them to a revival where Edward felt convicted to make a change. “I knew my life was out of control, and I was ready to turn it around. I just didn’t know how to do it.” He thought getting married might settle him down; so, at age 27, he and the young woman were married.
