Christmas Festivities!
By Lucy Hackett
At the Mission, we enjoy spreading the reason for the season – Jesus! As Haven of Rest shares love through our actions and words, many gifts are given, testimonies spoken, messages of encouragement shared from the Gospel, as well as food, clothing, and care items which are handed out, and more. The following events take place during this month:
Happy Birthday Jesus Party for families where kids and their parents can hear the nativity story of Christ in a message for all to understand. Each child 12 years and under will receive a present along with a bag including candy and cake.
Christmas Gathering for the Resident Men where Christmas carols are sung, Christmas devotionals are read, Testimonies are shared, games are played, and an abundance of gifts are given out to each of the men.
Christmas Dinner for the Men’s Division staff and Residents sharing a BBQ meal that is catered.
Christmas Celebration for the Client Men where Haven of Rest partners with Donors to pass out gifts. The traditional lunch and dinner with all the embellishments are served by our Kitchen staff. Devotions and traditional chapel services trend toward the Christmas message as we get closer to the day.
Hope Tote Giveaway for everyone, man, woman and child that attends lunch and/or dinner will receive a bag of personal care items.
Christmas Help is an outreach for families in need where they are helped by Haven of Rest or adopted by a donor. They are able to submit a wish list of their desires for Christmas. Families are able to pick up their gifts before the holiday. Fathers on the Residential Program and Women staying at the Mission with children will be able to pick presents and wrap them for their families.
Christmas Parties in Women’s Day Room and Harvest Home with a home-style meal that will be catered, gifts will be given out as well as personal care items. Wish lists are made and specific items are purchased. A sorority is giving gifts and personalized stockings filled with goodies for single ladies, moms, and kids.
Please Note: Social distancing is observed and everyone must wear masks. A limited number of people are allowed in at a time. COVID cleaning is regularly implemented.
