Encourage One Another
By Cheyenne Mitchell
Monday, August 20th was an exciting day at Harvest Home. There was a robot in the building! Steel Stinger Robotics, a group from Highland High School, brought in their robot to show the children staying at the Mission. They even let the kids drive the robot.
This event was organized as one of the many outreach events that Steel Stinger Robotics does every year. The mission of the team is to encourage kids to pursue careers in STEM fields. Their visit was a huge blessing to the Mission. It was such a pleasure to watch the demonstration and see kids learn how to operate the robot.
At the beginning of the demonstration one of the students from Steel Stinger Robotics asked if there were any volunteers who wanted to drive the robot. One of the little girls adamantly said no. She said that she didn’t know how to drive it and it would be too hard to learn. The team was so encouraging and kind to her. They assured her that she could learn how to drive it and patiently explained what she needed to do. After this confidence boost she was happily driving the robot and giggling with joy. This event reminded her and the other children at Harvest Home that they are smart, capable, and so loved.
As I watched the children interact with the robotics team I was reminded of 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” We’d like to thank Steel Stinger Robotics for taking time out of their day to visit Haven of Rest and serve our kids.
