Haven of Rest Ministries’ Volunteers
By Lucy Hackett
We are very thankful for our volunteers. They play an important role in our ministry as we work alongside them and minister together throughout all the different departments.
Volunteers are used in a variety of ways at the Mission, such as Kitchen, Clothing Department, Men and Women’s Divisions, and Administration. This is what a few of them had to say about their experience. . . (pictured from left to right).
Carleen Beck, a kitchen volunteer for over 20 years, says, “Haven does a lot of good. It’s a wonderful place.”
Diane Dickerson, a Clothing Department volunteer for 9 years, says, “I appreciate how loyal the Haven of Rest employees are to one another.”
Judy Collins, an administration volunteer for 8 years, says, “Volunteering at the Haven is the best thing I ever did for myself. I get much more out of it than I put in.”
Andy Davis, a Clothing Department volunteer for 10 years, says, “I like working here because I like the people and the love I get. And I like the lunches.”
Barb Eagleburger, a kitchen volunteer for 14 years, says, “This is a joyful place to serve and the highlight of our week.”
John Eagleburger, a transportation volunteer for 15 years, says, “I enjoy working with the really special men from all walks of life. I appreciate the prayer time before we go out and receive donations.”
Trevor Wozniak, a Men’s Day Room volunteer for 7 years, says, “It is nice to be able to give my free time to these guys. It helped me understand my wife more because she is a social worker dealing with Akron’s homeless.”
Eve Rupp, a Clothing Department volunteer for 6 years, says, “I work for the Lord and it is very rewarding.”
Dee Genda, Jan’s associate volunteer for 7 years, says, “Haven of Rest has done more for me than I have done for them. It gives me such a deep feeling of purpose and belonging. I’m treated like family and I always leave here feeling like I’ve accomplished something.”
Carol Lo, a kitchen volunteer for 25 years, says, “I just think the Haven of Rest is great. The Lord definitely blesses this place because it is used in the right way.”
