John Carney’s Retirement
By Lucy Hackett
John Carney worked for the Mission as Clothing Coordinator since 1998. He oversaw 8 employees and also supervised many volunteers who help the Clothing Distribution Center run smoothly.
John was not only available to his staff and volunteers, but to many people would call for prayer and encouragement. His doors were always open for people to come in to chat about their concerns and receive prayer. John and his staff would meet every morning at around 10:30 to pray. They would see the Lord move in theirs and many other people’s lives.
John endured two brain surgeries, one back infusion, a trigger thumb surgery, and other difficulties, yet He still devoted himself to the Mission and took very little time off. His commitment to the Mission was impeccable as he would work duties outside of his job description.
The Mission celebrated his retirement on December 31, 2019 after 21 years. Now after retiring, he continues to pray every morning, exercises, and then enjoys meeting with his friends and family for breakfast. He is volunteering 3 days a week at the YMCA in Cuyahoga Falls.
