A Million Thanks for Your Food Donations!
By Lucy Hackett
We can’t thank you enough for your kindness and generosity during these uncertain and trying times. Thank you, everyone, who has given beyond expectation during this pandemic. We appreciate your monetary giving as well as your food donations. The impact donations make is beyond measure. So many are blessed and grateful for their basic needs getting fulfilled.
Our Kitchen team works together to provide warm meals and various food choices during breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Beverages, snacks, and desserts are also given out. Hundreds are served daily. Jo Nell Muth, Foodservice Manager, says, “During the pandemic, God provided the donations we needed.” Even though Haven of Rest did have to purchase more food during this time, the community has been very generous. Jo Nell adds, “My staff have been so good trying to process everything that comes in. And now that our volunteers are coming back, we are able to get a lot more done.”
Steve Dobo, Assistant Foodservice Manager, shares about a student from the University of Akron who recently dropped off donations. When asked where it came from, the student said he just wanted to give back and help because he had a point in his life where he was close to being homeless and hungry. Steve says, “This is the Mission that never sleeps. It is truly amazing that we have staff members here ministering around the clock 24/7.”
Mr. H, Evening Cook, joined the Haven of Rest team as staff about a year ago. He has kitchen associates who help him serve the guests complete meals. Mr. H says, “God has given me a gift of preparing food for over 60 years. It’s a joy to be able to come in and fix the food.”
